Checkout in your style and selling with pre-orders

Give your checkout its own look

Settings → Checkout has a new Branding tab. Set a logo (small, medium or large; left or centred), one colour per surface — page, fields, text, secondary text, buttons and links, borders, and the order summary's background and text — heading and body fonts, how rounded fields and panels are, and a plain colour or a full-page image with an overlay behind the whole checkout. A live preview next to the settings shows a sample order in your checkout and follows every change before you save; Back to theme clears it all. Colours that are hard to read are flagged as you type. Anything you leave unset follows your storefront theme, and the storefront checkout, the embedded checkout and the checkout popup all use the same branding.

The checkout is drawn to Shopify's measurements

Your storefront checkout now takes the same geometry as Shopify Checkout, measured side by side: a 499 px form column on a white canvas, 49 px fields with 12 px corners, a label that floats to the top as the shopper types, 20 px section headings, and a full-width 50 px button in your theme's accent colour. Delivery and payment options sit as 58 px rows in one rounded group with the chosen row tinted, the order summary is a white card with 64 px product thumbnails, and the footer is one quiet line of legal links — the theme's own footer no longer hides behind it. On a phone the summary folds into one "Order summary" row above the form that opens on tap. Stores that switched on the dark summary keep it.

Pre-orders: sell before it is in stock

A selling plan of the new kind Pre-order (Subscriptions → New plan) says when the goods ship — on a date, as soon as stock arrives, or "date to follow" — how many units may be sold beyond zero stock, and optionally the line the product page shows. Attach it to a product like any other plan. On every theme the buy box of a sold-out product with such a plan turns into "Pre-order · Ships from 12 October" instead of "Sold out"; the cart, the checkout summary and the order confirmation email repeat that line, and the full amount is charged at checkout with any payment method. The order arrives with a "Pre-order · 12 Oct" badge, sits on a fulfilment hold that says why, and offers Release now; a daily job releases dated pre-orders on their morning and notifies you, and a stock arrival releases the undated ones the moment every line is covered. The orders list filters on pre-orders and the KPI strip counts the open ones.
